The Los Angeles Accordionaires “Pops” Orchestra
The largest all-accordion orchestra on the West Coast.
The Los Angeles Accordionaires “Pops” Orchestra is one of the largest accordion orchestras of its kind on the West Coast. Founded in 1996 the group is primarily comprised of accordions with some percussion, horn and bass.
Players are divided into four sections grouped by melody and harmony. To achieve low notes, the orchestra incorporates a single bass accordion with special reeds tuned to reach a lower octave. The orchestra also utilizes a midi accordion that can simulate sounds across hundreds of different instruments. Repertoire consists primarily of light classical, Broadway, big band and pop music. The orchestra’s sound is symphonic and audience members often mention they they had no idea that that many accordions could sound so wonderful together. Janet Hane is the conductor.
The orchestra practices twice a month in the Burbank area. If you are interested in joining the The Los Angeles Accordionaires “Pops” Orchestra please contact Janet (please put audition in subject line). At this time, the orchestra is actively auditioning/considering new members.
